Breaking: Real Madrid have announced their squad for the International Champions Cup.
The International Champions Cup is back this summer and Relevent is delighted to reveal the touring squad of Real Madrid, the most successful club in European soccer history.
A continental powerhouse, Los Blancos have competed in every edition of club soccer’s premier summer tournament since its inception in 2013. They have previously triumphed in the United States, Australia and China.
Real were also involved in one of the most famous International Champions Cup match of all time, facing off with Clásico rivals FC Barcelona in front of 66,000 fans at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
The first match will be in Houston against Bayern on 21 July at 2am (20 July, 7pm local time). Afterwards, the Whites will visit two stadiums where they played last year. On 24 July, at 1am (23 July, 7pm local time), they will face Arsenal at the FedExField in Landover, Maryland. And the tour of the United States will close at the MetLife in East Rutherford (New Jersey) against Atlético. The game will be played on 27 July at 01:30am (26 July, 7:30pm local time).
Head coach Zinedine Zidane nominated a list of players that included new signings Luka Jović, Eden Hazard and Ferland Mendy. The ICC will represent the first time fans can see those new signings in action while wearing the famous white Real Madrid shirt.
Also among the players nominated are already established stars. The squad, in fact, includes several World Cup stars including World Cup winners Sergio Ramos (with Spain in 2010), Toni Kroos (with Germany in 2014) and Raphaël Varane (with France in 2018). Meanwhile, Croatian midfielder Luka Modrić was the biggest star at last summer’s World Cup and, as a result, won the 2018 Ballon d’Or.
The squad will, however, also include several emerging stars. Young Brazilian starlet Rodrygo will try to emulate the success of his compatriot Vinicius Jr. Vinicius starred at the ICC last year and has since established himself as an important member of the squad. Then there is young Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, who was excellent when Ukraine won the U20 FIFA World Cup this spring.
Overall, it is an exciting squad that Zidane has nominated to tour the United States this summer. A team that combines both the past, present and future of one of the world’s most recognized name in football.
Real Madrid are synonymous with success. They have won 64 domestic club honours, including a record 33 LaLiga titles, and hold the record for most European and worldwide titles with 26, including 13 European Cups and four FIFA Club World Cups.
Last year, Real participated in three thrilling International Champions Cup matches, facing Manchester United in Miami, Juventus at FedExField in Landover and AS Roma at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. Los Merengues are always a huge draw; their matches last year attracted almost 200,000 supporters.
Make sure you don’t miss your chance to see Real Madrid and a host of the world’s other best teams this summer!
